What Do Clothing Grades Mean?
When buying wholesale second-hand clothing, grades are used to describe the overall condition of the stock. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right type of stock for how you plan to sell.
Each grade offers a different balance between quality, price, and potential profit.

Premium Plus
Premium Plus is the highest quality grade. Items show no visible signs of wear, with no marks or holes, and are in a near-perfect rewearable condition. This grade includes stronger UK high street brands such as Next, Marks & Spencer, Zara, River Island, and similar labels, with better overall presentation and attention to detail.

Grade A
Grade A clothing is in very good rewearable condition with minimal signs of use. Items may have very small marks or minor imperfections, but nothing that would stop them from being sold. As this is second-hand clothing, garments may not feel as crisp as new, and some labels may be missing, but sizing will still be present.

Best Value
Best Value stock offers the lowest cost per item and is ideal for resellers looking for higher margins. Items are still wearable but will show more visible signs of use. Expect marks, bobbling, fading, or small faults like missing buttons or loose stitching. Some items may need cleaning or light repair, and there will be a percentage of non-saleable items within each parcel.

Unsorted / Original
Unsorted stock is exactly as it sounds — a full mix of all grades. Nothing has been separated, so you receive a combination of higher and lower quality items within the same batch. This is often chosen by experienced buyers who are happy to sort and maximise value themselves.
Which Grade Should You Choose?
The right grade depends on how you plan to sell and how much time you want to spend preparing stock.
Higher grades like Premium Plus and Grade A are ready to sell with minimal work. Lower grades like Best Value offer better margins but may need extra time to clean, sort, or repair.
Some resellers prefer a mix, balancing quicker sales with higher profit opportunities.
What to Expect
All stock is second-hand, so some natural signs of wear are always to be expected. Even in higher grades, items won’t feel like brand new retail stock.
Grades are a guide, not an exact science, but they give you a clear expectation of what you’re buying.
